As Armistice day 2019 approaches, a day marking the end of the first world war on the 11th of November 1918, The Royal British Legion (TRBL) is asking communities across Britain to ‘Remember Together’.

TRBL, which operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, was formed in May 1921 to support service men and women past and present and their families.  TRBL is the largest armed forces charity group in the UK.

Wearing a red poppy on Armistice or Remembrance Day, is to recognize and recollect all those who have represented our country in the armed force. It is “a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future,” according to The UK British Legion. A minutes silence is taken by many at 11.00 AM on the 11th day of the 11th month, the day that the peace treaty was signed in 1918.

Shortly after we created the English Tea & Toast label, now called Britannia Tea & Toast for Atty & Smart in 2016 we were excited to discover that a family charity of the TRBL, Poppyscotland, which supports ex-serving personnel and their families north of the border has a fundraising initiative called Tea and Toast.  Judy Murray, mother of the Scottish tennis player Andy Murray launched the 2015 ‘Tea & Toast’ on board The Royal Yacht Britannia. The idea for ‘Tea & Toast’ was born from the tradition of servicemen in the armed forces meeting for a cuppa and slice of toast to boost morale. Poppyscotland encourages and supports any of us willing and able to hold a ‘Tea and Toast’. Whether it be from gathering a few friends together for a sandwich and cake or a more formal dinner proceeds raised go to support the Armed Forces Community.

Atty & Smart would like to play our part in supporting and giving back to servicemen and their families. During the month of November for each purchase made from our Britannia Tea & Toast collection we will be making a donation to the TRBL
