Armistice Day 2020
As Armistice Day 2020 approaches, the 11th of November marks the end of the first world war in 1918. The Royal British Legion (TRBL) is asking communities across Britain to ‘Remember Together’.
TRBL was formed in May 1921 to support servicemen and women and their families. The largest armed forces charity group in the UK is TRBL, they operate in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Wearing a red poppy on Remembrance Day recognises all those who have represented our country in the armed forces. According to The UK British Legion, it is “a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future”. A minute of silence is taken by many at 11.00 AM on Remembrance Day.
Britannia Tea and Toast
We created the English Tea and Toast label, now called Britannia Tea & Toast for Atty & Smart in 2016. Next, we soon discovered that a family charity of the TRBL, Poppyscotland, has a fundraising initiative called Tea and Toast. Poppyscotland supports ex-serving personnel and their families in Scotland.
Tea and Toast meaning
Judy Murray, mother of the Scottish tennis player Andy Murray, launched the 2015 ‘Tea & Toast’ on board The Royal Yacht Britannia. The idea for ‘Tea & Toast’ was born from the tradition of servicemen in the armed forces meeting for a cuppa and slice of toast to boost morale. Poppyscotland encourages and supports any of us willing and able to hold a ‘Tea and Toast’. Whether it be from gathering a few friends together for tea or for a formal dinner, proceeds raised go to support the Armed Forces Community.
Atty & Smart would like to play our part in supporting and giving back to servicemen and their families. Most importantly, during the month of November for each purchase made from our Britannia Tea & Toast set and collection, we will make a donation to the TRBL.
