There is still one of the best relaxation techniques missing though – a good book. If you don’t have a perfect read on hand to add to your spa experience, then one of the following book recommendations may appeal.
Something Wilder by Christine Lauren is a feel-good romance that has been described as warm, irresistible and touching. Its heroine Lily guides tourists on fake treasure hunts through the canyons of Utah with the help of her Father’s coveted hand drawn maps. When an old flame turns up, who Lily has not forgiven the fun begins and so does the ‘far-from-smooth’ adventure.
Another great read is Sarah Morgan’s contemporary romance Beach House Summer. Joanne Whitman’s life changes when her celebrity chef husband dies in a car accident. Joanne discovers that he was not travelling alone. And, that his companion, who survived the crash is pregnant. Joanne makes the unlikely suggestion that she and her belated husband’s young female passenger, Ashley Blake hole themselves away in her beach house for the summer to avoid paparazzi attention. When Joanne bumps into an old flame, things heat up. Then secrets spill. Secrets that could bring Joanne and Ashley’s fledgling friendship crashing down.
The Stationery Shop of Tehran by Marjan Kamali is about a teenager called Roya in early 1950’s Tehran. Roya loves Mr Fakhri’s stationery shop and spends a lot of time there. She is introduced by Mr Fakhri to the handsome Bahman, who she immediately falls in love with. Roya and Bahman both share a great love of Rumi’s poetry and plan to marry. On the eve of their marriage, with Tehran changing politically around them, Roya goes to the town square to meet Bahman. But there is a coup d’etat and Bahman never shows up. It’s only sixty or so years later, having been sent to college in the US by her parents and stayed there and married that Roya learns, in a twist of fate what happened to her past love.
For a fun read try Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat, which is all about his new life as a gentleman farmer. From ‘Top Gear’ and cars Jeremy Clarkson moves to the farm in the Cotswolds in the UK. How does he manage? Read Diddly Squat to find out.
Capture the Castle, Dodie Smith’s first novel set during the Second World War is a nostalgic read. The story tells of a 17-year-old Cassandra Mortmain who keeps a dairy all about her home, a crumbling castle in Suffolk, England and her eccentric and colourful family. Then new neighbours arrive from America and Cassandra falls in love….. Dodie Smith is also the author of the children’s classic book, The Hundred and One Dalmations.
The last Atty & Smart recommendation is the bestseller, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. In 1922 Count Alexander Rostov is sentenced to spend the rest of his life under house arrest inside a luxury hotel across from the Kremlin. Wonderful glimpses into a pivotal era in Russian history and aristocratic Count Rostov’s ability to enter a journey of self-discovery under such trying circumstances make this book a fascinating read.
Now you’re all set for your relaxing and indulgent time out.
